Smart Lipo Abdomen & Flanks: Patient #1811657

Patient Overview:
The patient chose to undergo laser lipolysis (SmartLipo) on the abdomen, flanks, and lower back, with fat extraction using the nutational device. They expressed dissatisfaction with their waist and neck appearance. Despite regular exercise, they have gained 30 pounds over the past two years. They have not previously undergone any procedures in these areas.
The patient understands that this treatment will not address muscular diastasis or stretch marks. The upper abdomen exhibits mild adiposity and laxity, while the lower abdomen presents moderate adiposity with mild laxity. The flanks and lower back also display moderate adiposity and mild laxity.
Surgical Case Study:
Before surgery, the patient was prepped in the preoperative holding area, where treatment areas were carefully marked under their supervision. Once in the operating room, anesthesia was administered, and the patient was positioned supine.
We infiltrated the ports with our standard straight solution and applied quarter-strength tumescent solution to the treatment areas. The surgical field was prepped and draped in a sterile manner. Ports were created using an 18-gauge needle.
The laser cannula was introduced into the soft tissue and activated at 40W with a 1000 µm fiber. After ensuring all personnel had proper eye protection, we targeted all fat layers deeper than 1 cm, maintaining a uniform temperature of 55°C. We also treated a 1 cm subdermal soft tissue layer at 40W with a 55°C cutoff.
Gentle aspiration followed using the nutational SmartLipo device. A 5 mm bucket cannula extracted fat from deep subcutaneous tissue, while a 3 mm aspiration cannula with 1 mm ports treated more superficial layers.
We closed the ports using subcuticular 4-0 chromic sutures. Throughout the procedure, we utilized the Smartsense and Thermaguide for precision. The patient remained stable and was transferred to the recovery room.
When can I expect to see results from smartlipo to the abdomen & flanks?
Patients typically see immediate results, as 75-85% of targeted fat cells liquefy during the procedure and are removed via a small cannula. This makes the results comparable to traditional liposuction right away.
Some swelling and fluid retention are expected. Over the next 6-8 weeks, the remaining treated fat will continue to liquefy and be naturally eliminated by the lymphatic system. Frequent lymphatic drainage massages can accelerate this process.
Skin tightening begins in some areas immediately. However, the more significant, long-term tightening effect starts around 4-6 weeks post-procedure. Older patients may experience skin tightening similar to traditional liposuction, with full results taking 3-6 months. The skin will continue to tighten for up to a year.
What body regions can be treated with Smart Lipo besides the abdomen & flanks?
SmartLipo successfully treats all body areas that traditional liposuction targets, including the abdomen, flanks, thighs, knees, neck, and chest. Due to the precision of the device, it can also address areas that traditional liposuction typically cannot, such as around the bra straps, upper arms, elbows, calves, jowls, and cheeks.
We have also performed corrective procedures for patients dissatisfied with prior liposuction results. Issues such as uneven demarcation between treated and untreated areas, tunneling from liposuction cannulas, and loose skin can all be effectively treated with SmartLipo.
