What Is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase the size, shape, and/or fullness of your breasts. The surgery involves placing implants under the breast tissue or chest muscles. Speak with one of our doctors to learn more about what breast augmentation can do for you.
Breast Augmentation Recovery
After breast augmentation surgery, you will likely experience some swelling, bruising, and soreness. These effects are temporary and will subside over time. Our team will provide you with post-operative instructions to help ensure a smooth recovery.
Types of Breast Implants
Despite the names, both implant types are made from a silicone shell. There are two main types of breast implants: saline-filled and silicone-filled. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water and are often used for patients who want highly customized implant sizes. The main downsides to these implants is that they look like water balloons under the skin and are prone to a rippling appearance. When one ruptures, it completely deflates. Modern Silicone implants are made with an elastic cohesive gel material and provide a more natural look and feel. When ruptured the gel stays stuck together in clumps rather than leaking like a popped water balloon. If you experience rupture with either type it is best to have the device replaced. Despite the general “10 year rule” modern implants can last much longer in some cases 25+ years and only need to be replaced if they are ruptured or for personal reasons like discomfort or a change in size.
