Understanding Microneedling: What You Need to Know

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is a cosmetic procedure where tiny, sterile needles are used to make small punctures in the skin. Although it might sound intimidating, the procedure is generally well-tolerated and minimally uncomfortable.

Introducing the Exceed™ Medical Microneedling Device

The Exceed device stands out as the first FDA-approved microneedling system with dual indications, specifically designed to address facial wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation. This device offers powerful results with minimal downtime, making it a highly sought-after option for those seeking effective skin rejuvenation.

Why Choose the Exceed Device for Microneedling?

The Exceed microneedling system is one of the most advanced on the market, boasting FDA clearance as a dual-indicated medical device. It offers a minimally invasive treatment that is both versatile and clinically validated for its effectiveness.

Industry Certifications and Quality Assurance

Unlike many microneedling devices, the Exceed system has achieved the highest level of certification. It is the world’s first FDA-cleared Class II medical device for microneedling, clinically proven to treat acne scars, reduce the depth of scars, and improve skin texture. The Exceed device is renowned for visibly diminishing wrinkles, improving skin firmness, and evening out skin tone. All components are manufactured in Germany, ensuring top-notch quality and reliability.

Compared to competitors like Dermapen, which have faced criticism over the authenticity of their certifications, Exceed has maintained a rigorous standard of clinical approval.

Clients often worry about discomfort during microneedling. With the Exceed system, treatments are designed for maximum comfort. A numbing cream is applied before the procedure, and the device’s rapid needle movements make the session quick and tolerable. Most describe the sensation as similar to light sandpaper on the skin.
Microneedling promotes healing from within, so while immediate improvements are possible, the full benefits take time to appear. Many clients notice a subtle glow right after treatment, with more significant changes visible after about a month as collagen and elastin build up.
Microneedling is suitable for a wide range of skin types, and the Exceed device’s adjustable needle depth makes it effective for varying concerns. It’s especially beneficial for addressing mild to moderate wrinkles, scars, and enlarged pores. A typical treatment plan includes 2-3 sessions spaced six weeks apart.
Microneedling uses fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin, stimulating a natural healing response. The Exceed device triggers increased cell turnover and collagen production, helping the skin look tighter, smoother, and younger. This process is enhanced with the application of hyaluronic acid (HA), a key ingredient in many skincare products, to further hydrate and rejuvenate the skin.

Like any cosmetic procedure, microneedling carries some risks. The most common side effects are mild and include:

  • Temporary discomfort on the day of treatment
  • Redness, swelling, and possible bruising in the days following
  • Minor skin irritation, which usually resolves within 12-48 hours

In rare cases, temporary hyperpigmentation can occur, particularly in darker skin tones, but this typically fades within a few weeks. Other uncommon risks include infection if post-care instructions aren’t followed properly.

Pre and Post-Treatment Care

Pre-Treatment Guidelines:

  • Avoid Retin-A and other active skincare products 24 hours before treatment.
  • Stay away from direct sun exposure the day before.
  • Keep your skin free from makeup on the treatment day.
  • If you take blood-thinning medication, consult with your doctor before proceeding.
  • Schedule any Botox or filler injections well in advance—at least two weeks for Botox and four weeks for dermal fillers.

Post-Treatment Care:

  • Expect redness and a sensation similar to sunburn immediately after treatment. This typically fades within 24 hours.
  • Avoid makeup and sunscreen for the first 24 hours post-treatment.
  • After 24 hours, use a gentle sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher for two weeks.
  • Steer clear of active skincare products, tanning, swimming, and intense exercise for a few days after your session.

Proper pre- and post-care are crucial for the best results and to minimize any potential side effects. For any concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to your provider for guidance.
